Beginning in 1995 when the Quebec Nordiques moved to Denver, the Colorado Avalanche won the Stanley Cup in their first season. Led by captain Joe Sakic and goaltender Patrick Roy, the Avs began a decade of dominance, resulting in another Stanley Cup in 2001. Throughout the years, the Colorado Avalanche have been tops in the league with division championships and playoff appearances.

This season, the Avs celebrate their 20th season in the Mile High City. Roy, the goalie who led the Avalanche for so many years is in his third season as head coach. Sakic, is now the Director of Hockey Operations for the club.

The Colorado Avalanche begins the year at Pepsi Center with three-straight home games against the Wild, Dallas Stars and Boston Bruins. The schedule this season includes home games with top teams like San Jose, Calgary, Edmonton, Pittsburgh, Toronto and more.

On New Year’s Eve, the Colorado Avalanche will host the defending Stanley Cup Champions, the Chicago Blackhawks at 6 p.m. The regular season continues through April with the final game of the season on April 9 against the Anaheim Ducks.

Top players for the Colorado Avalanche include Nathan MacKinnon, Matt Duchene, Jarome Iginla, Gabriel Landeskog, Tyson Barrie, and Semyon Varlamov.

For 15 seasons, the Colorado Avalanche has called the Pepsi Center home. Since its construction, Pepsi Center has remained as one of the top venues in the National Hockey League.
