The beautifully renovated Union Station Denver, coined “Denver’s New Living Room” for its central gathering spaces, is a favorite among tourists and locals alike. With its heavy emphasis on unique, local restaurants and shops, and easy transportation, it’s a downtown hot-spot that will have you sold on Denver in no time.
Union Station Denver: What to Do and See
- The Tattered Cover, a large indie bookstore, is a Denver classic. Plenty of comfy, cozy sitting places, knowledgeable staff, and a great selection of both new and used books have endeared it to decades of book lovers. This new satellite location in Union Station is no exception!
- If you’re looking for unique gifts, apparel, or furniture, look no further than 5 Green Boxes. There’s something for everyone here, from children to hippies. Be sure to print off this page for a 15% discount on any item in the store, excluding sale and furniture.
- More than just lovely fresh flowers, Bloom is a lifestyle boutique with hand-curated items from around the globe. The stunning arrangements, home décor, and jewelry you’ll find here are always beautiful and special.
No matter what you’re in the mood to eat or drink, Union Station Denver restaurants have you covered from early in the morning to late at night. Snooze, a local obsession, is famous for its pancakes, eggs benedict, and morning cocktails. If you’re just looking for a coffee (or Irish coffee?) or snack, Pigtrain Coffee is for you! They also sell Union Square official merchandise. And there’s nothing quite as refreshing as a treat from Milkbox Ice Creamery. Sixteen flavors of shakes, malts, sundaes, cones, and cups are available, and you can even make your shake a boozy treat. Hanging out with a cold local brew on the patio of Terminal Bar can’t be beat, but if you’re going for glamour with your adult beverage, turn to the Cooper Lounge overlooking the Great Hall and 17th Street. For casual dining, check out ACME Burger and Brat Corporation, with their fresh ground meat and bakery-fresh buns or The Kitchen [Next Door] for their locally-sourced meal and drink. For a full restaurant experience, Union Station hosts Mercantile Dining & Provision, a unique farm-to-table restaurant that also houses their market, and the Stoic & Genuine, a seafood and oyster bar brimming with freshness, all sustainably sourced.
Catch a Ride
Going back to its roots as a transportation center in the heart of Denver, Union Station Denver now boasts an extensive network of bus routes, light rail lines, and a full Amtrack train schedule. Union Station is also conveniently located on the route of the free MallRide bus, which travels the length of the popular 16th Street Mall area, full of food, shopping, and activies. For commuters or those in the downtown area during high traffic times, there’s also the new free MetroRide, another downtown bus service that stops at Union Station. For those of you traveling to our beautiful city from Denver International Airport, a commuter rail line opened in April 2016, running straight from the airport to Union Station. You might never have to rent a car to enjoy downtown Denver again! We love the convenience of this new line.
