The Most Scenic Drives Near Denver
There are numerous Colorado Scenic & Historic Byways to choose from. If you are in Denver, one of the drives we recommend you take is Lariat Loop. This is a relatively short trip, but it’s one of the best driving roads in Colorado. You’ll travel past diverse foothills, sprawling landscapes, and mountain overlooks across multiple towns, including Golden and Morrison. In Morrison, you can stop at the Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre. This natural rock formation is known for unique red color, structure, and numerous outdoor events held throughout the year. You can take a tour of the park or maybe even catch a concert if you time your trip accordingly!
Another great option is the Mount Evans Scenic Byway. Take a journey on the highest paved road in North America to an altitude of over 14,000 feet. You will drive past beautiful parks and lakes including Bergen Park, Mount Goliath Natural Area, and Summit Lake before reaching Mount Evans. At the top, park your car and take in awe-inspiring views of the surrounding area. This is something you won’t be able to experience anywhere else. As a safety precaution, we would like to remind you that the road to the top includes many narrow turns, so be sure to drive safely and keep an eye on the weather report.
If you’re short on time or would like to break up your city excitement with a quick trip in the countryside, Guanella Pass is for you. This 20-mile drive leads you through a diverse natural area with thriving wildlife. You’ll see everything from birds flying overhead to beavers splashing through streams. You might even get a glimpse of Mount Bierstadt on your way to the historic community of Georgetown. We recommend taking Guanella Pass during spring or summer to truly appreciate its natural beauty as it comes to life!
